Why you need to budget and hire a professional photographer for your wedding.

Today we’re talking about something that is near and dear to my heart- hiring professionals for your wedding. One would think that hiring professionals would be a no-brainer, but this isn’t always true. Sometimes you just want to spend as little as possible, and so you resort to trying to find “alternatives” for the usual wedding services. And some of these “alternatives” usually end up involving having a friend or family member or friend of a friend or distant cousin do something instead of hiring a professional. In fact, there are even wedding planning sites out there that will tell you to not hire professionals in order to save money. Well friends, that is NOT the kind of wedding planning site PEP  is. If you ask me, not hiring professionals is a recipe for disaster! Hiring a friend would end up causing way more issues than paying for a professional would… and yes, you get what you pay for!

Around here we have seen that last five weddings, where the couples shorted their budget, hired a friend or a pensioner for a couple hundred euros and tried to get away with saving.  They all lost, and lost big, precious memories, that you can’t go back and recapture.

The nightmare wedding in the night.  This couple did not think about a problem, taking photos outside in the dark, nor did their inexpensive photographer. The result was a nightmare. The photographer had trouble capturing photos, that were of any value to the couple.  Fortunately one of our staff was on site and began shooting photos with a high end smartphone.  With these were were able to piece something together for the newly wed, but the missed out on so many classic wedding photos.  What a shame.

Don’t just take it from me though.  This couple unfortunately found out the hard way when they decided to let a “budding photographer” friend take their wedding photos. The thing is though, this wasn’t a friend who had shot a few weddings and was trying to get into the industry. He just had a “nice camera” and so they asked him to capture their day. To make a long story short, this “photographer” lost the couple’s image card and now they have no wedding photos. Because he wasn’t a professional and didn’t know what he was doing. Yeah… that’s awful, isn’t it? Can you imagine?!

Here’s the thing- if it was the successful norm to have your friend who has a nice camera take your wedding photos, cater your wedding, or do your flowers, there wouldn’t be professionals doing it! And there most likely wouldn’t be amazing images like this one…

5 Reasons To Hire A Professional For Your Wedding, Not A Friend! via TheELD.com

In my experience having a friend do a professional’s job almost never works out… unless they ARE a professional who truly is your friend (in which case, you are one lucky gal!). So before we go any further, let’s just go over a few of the reasons for why you should hire a professional and not your friend…

1. A PROFESSIONAL IS COMMITTED TO YOU.

A professional will be committed to YOU and your wedding day. They are guaranteed to show up on your wedding day, no questions asked. I’ve seen “friends” commit to photographing a wedding and then flake out 2 months – even a few weeks- before the wedding, people not show up to help on the day-of when they said they would, and even people just not caring at all. When you hire and pay a professional, they are contractually obligated to carry out the duties that you hired them to perform!

2. A PROFESSIONAL WILL HAVE EXPERIENCE.

There’s nothing worse than having everyone standing around at your wedding not knowing what to do next. Hiring someone who has experience will most definitely help your stress level both before and during the wedding. A professional with experience will also have a specific way of doing things, so there won’t be too much guesswork for you while planning your wedding. The last thing you want to have to do while planning your wedding is figure out what your friend is supposed to be doing!

3. YOU WILL GET AWESOME RESULTS FROM A PROFESSIONAL.

Or in other words, you get what you PAY for! Hiring a professional will ensure that you get a great result. Whether it’s photos or flowers, or food or coordinating, having someone who does weddings for a living will certainly give you the best outcome. It may not always be the most ideal option to spend money on a professional, but really and truly, paying for a service makes SUCH a huge difference! Not to mention that yes, there’s a contract involved, and as I stated before, they are obligated to provide you with those awesome results.

4. YOU WON’T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT STRAINING YOUR RELATIONSHIP.

When working with a professional, if anything, you will build a relationship with them. Almost always, when hiring a friend the relationship gets strained in some way. Either they hold a grudge against you for making them work for free or less than normal, or you’re not happy with your results and you just can’t tell them. It’s not worth ruining a relationship with one of your friends!

5. YOU WANT YOUR FRIENDS TO ENJOY YOUR WEDDING!!

If they truly are your friend, you’ll want to have them at your wedding and enjoy it, right? And if that’s not the case, then you don’t really want to even have them at your wedding.

Don’t get me wrong- there CAN be friends that help out with your wedding who will do a great job. But in my experience, it doesn’t always work out for the best.

One of the things that I’ve discovered about weddings is that it’s pretty common for “friends” who “do weddings” to pop up when you get engaged. What a coincidence that you have a friend who photographs weddings, coordinates, AND is a DJ, right?! At the time, it seems lucky and like you have all your bases covered, but please do your best to make an informed decision when friends offer to help with your wedding.

I would love to hear from you all on this. Do you have any friends who wanted to help you with your wedding? Did you decide to go with them, or go with a professional? And any former brides out there… did you have any experiences with “friends”?  Did you hire a retired photographer, who lost his grip and has a shake of unfocused photos? We would love to here from you about your experiences, they will definately help others decide.

Let’s talk about budget.

These days a regular  budget in a minimum of 1500 for photography which includes a few hours of photography, and a wedding photo book.  But this price comes without a backup photographer or two.  When you can spend 2500-3500 it  goes much further, you get more for your money and the photographer can afford backup photographers to cover his photos and behind the scenes photos.  Well spent, well invested.

By now you are probably thinking about budgeting a much more in your photography budget and that is a great thing.

Don’t forget about professional videography.  This is also a forgotten step and like photographers, many couples skim the budget and just have a family member or friend do some videos.  What we do is we ask you to provide us with some family members and friends that would be good with video, so they can help us capture moments we might not of thought about.  Then we can tailor a custom video package that includes the latest and greatest drone wedding photography.  Combined together with professional broadcast quality video moments, you wedding video will be like it was on a TV show.  Imagine with me for a moment, there are several video cameras, and one is stationed behind the minister pointed at you, the other in the center of the isle, pointed at the crowd, another behind the minister to get close up shots and another going around the audience taking something that is called “cut aways” where they capture the expressions and emotions of the audience.   When these are captured together, some thing you can’t see a tear in your mother’s eye as you say the “I Do’s ” and the look of your best friend laughing , when the ring bearer gets a little mis-behaved.  All these moments are usually talked about, but imagine you and your bride watching the video after your honeymoon and see the vantage point , the whole big picture.

That’s how important wedding videos are. It’s why one of our camera operators, is called upon when there are special events, and they want a close up camera man that can follow the action and not miss anything.

Budgeting for video can seem pricey, but it is worth the investment and spending anywhere from 1500, to 3500 more on video, can bring you and your loved ones, family and friends some magical moments and memories.

To sum it up, some of the most important investments in your wedding are

  1. Vintage wedding cars
  2. Professional photography
  3. Professional videography

When these are a priority, you will have memories you can never forget, and every anniversary have a look at how it all got started.

We hope to work with you on your next wedding, think about contacting us today.

How Celebrities Keep Their Weddings a Secret

A “secret” celebrity wedding: In the age of social media, it seems like a Hollywood oxymoron on the order of “late-career comeback” and “no-fault divorce.”

Even so, to judge by the number of celebrities trying off-the-grid nuptials, far from the prying lenses of the paparazzi (Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux, married Aug. 5 in a quiet ceremony at their home in the Bel-Air section of Los Angeles, are but the latest), the underground wedding has become one of Hollywood’s biggest status symbols.

Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden, Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, and Zooey Deschanel and Jacob Pechenik are among the many couples to attract intense media speculation over their stealth unions, which generally managed to unfold in private without the tabloid scrum.

The famous friends who earn coveted invitations seem to acknowledge that, among the celebrity class, the No. 1 wedding gift on every registry these days is silence.

“I’m afraid to even talk about that wedding because everyone is on top-secret lockdown,” Howard Stern, a guest at the Aniston-Theroux ceremony, said on a recent SiriusXM broadcast. (“Howard Stern discretion,” of course, is another oxymoron; the Medusa-haired shock jock promptly let slip that Jimmy Kimmel had presided over the ceremony.)

No matter how much stars try to hide under the dome of silence, leaks are inevitable with some.

Ms. Aniston and her Ducati-loving husband, for instance, tried a major head-fake before their ceremony, reportedly hiding their party gear in a vacant house next door and telling guests they were being invited to Mr. Theroux’s 44th birthday party, not a wedding.

But within days, the tabloid-hungry public already knew about the guest list (which included Lisa Kudrow, Orlando Bloom and Lake Bell), Ms. Aniston’s dress (summery, boho-inspired) and their cake (Muppets-themed).

TMZ and People published numerous photos of the backyard setup, taken from high overhead, and grainy shots of a vendor carrying the cake. But no photos have emerged of the couple themselves, denying the gossip-hungry public even a mental image of the affair, the kind that can linger for years after, say, a royal wedding.

The truth is, the best efforts of the stars are not enough. Even the most discreet wedding is a team effort, so it comes down to the wedding planners, charged with overseeing the whole affair, to make sure that everyone, guests included, observes the lockdown.

“There’s no midpoint: It’s absolute secrecy, or it’s everywhere,” said Marcy Blum, the planner for several celebrity weddings, including LeBron James’s 2013 hyper-private event (the printed invitations did not even list a time or place). “Because of cellphones, TMZ doesn’t have to stake out a wedding for there to be a leak. Everyone’s an investigative reporter.”

Here are a few A-list planners discussing the new rules of the hush-hush celebrity wedding. (The following interviews have been edited and condensed).

Celebrity Weddings Spain: “That’s were celebrity wedding Spain comes in with our confidentially agreements, and un-cover operations. Only 2 staff members actually will know who the celebrity is.  When the workers and hired services arrive, they drop off with security, their cell phones, and purses.  Ladies who need something special, will be given a clear plastic bag for essentials. Everyone is locked out during the events.  Spain has many secluded  areas, or resorts where the wedding can still be made in paradise.  The celebrity arrives in Spain, on a private airstrip and escorted away in under cover vehicles.  All of our service partners, only know it is a regular wedding, because every wedding is special.” — Rob, managing partner at Celebrity Weddings Spain.

In Weddings, Too, It’s Location, Location, Location: “The secret is, look for venues that are hard to get to. Anything with ocean access is easier to get to for the press. If secrecy is really a problem, do it inside a building. Then the chances of people seeing it are a lot less. Or you can use a tent. But sadly, there lies the problem. How do you make it beautiful and romantic without compromising the vision by having to cover it all up?” — JoAnn Gregoli,

Keep Your Friends Close and Your Guest List Closer: “If you really want to keep it secret, you have to invite fewer than 100 guests, and that is really pushing it. Second, like in the case of Jennifer Aniston, or Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel, it helps if people have no idea where they are going. When we planned LeBron’s wedding, we sent an invitation that said it was going to take place somewhere on the West Coast, but we didn’t give details until we called them back, after we vetted them to make sure it was an invited guest or their representative. Still, it’s rarely foolproof. One of their save-the-dates showed up on TMZ.” — Marcy Blum,

Secure the Perimeter: “The problem is, once something leaks to one press outlet, it’s like sharks feeding on a dead carcass. They swarm. I did a wedding a few years back in the Hamptons involving some very well-known artists in the music industry, and we had security every seven feet around the perimeter of the property. The media will sit outside, waiting for leaks. And they don’t just show up the day of. They’ll be talking to people who provide luxury trailers, the generators, it could be the tenting company. We have to plant security four or five days in advance.” — Andrea Correale,

Establish a Paper Trail: “Very often in an event of this magnitude, you have two to three hundred people on site. It’s not just the caterers you have to worry about. There are lots of vendors involved: musicians, people renting lounge furniture, fabric people. You have to make sure you get the proper forms signed so no one in the other companies leaks word, either. You dot your I’s and cross your T’s, but in the end of the day, you can’t control everything.” — Andrea Correale.

Spare the Phones, Spoil the Party: “Unless you’re going to make every single guest including Cousin Harry sign a nondisclosure agreement, then nothing is foolproof. So we leave a letter in the guest rooms saying: ‘We really want you to be present for this. Please don’t bring a cellphone, if you do bring it we’re going to ask you to leave it at the check-in desk.’ Then we organize them and put them in separate plastic bags with the number on the outside. It’s not about the couple being so paranoid. There are a lot of non-famous people there. It could be a cousin, an old college roommate. It’s about the couple not wanting the famous guests to be bothered by the non-famous guests for selfies. It’s a wedding, not a red carpet event.” — Marcy Blum.

No One Is Above the Law: “With guests, you can say ‘Please don’t take pictures,’ but you know they’re going to Instagram it, so we have just said, ‘Please deposit your phones.’ You can ask them to shut them off, but they won’t. Some people take great umbrage and don’t want to give up their phones. There was a celebrity once who told me, ‘Hey, I’m not going to do it.’ We just had to watch that person. You can always tell what they’re doing. If someone takes a picture just to take a picture, they put the phone down. But if they take a shot and start typing simultaneously, they’re leaking it out.” — JoAnn Gregoli.

Cell phone blockers – “Another option is to install simple cell phone jammers at the event.  This ensure strict privacy.   We tell all the vendors, musicians, etc. Do not leave anything at home, once events begin, all vendors must remain on the property until the event is concluded.  We have backup vendor services for essentials, and extra replacement gear, so nothing is left out. At the end, celebs leave first, then guests leave second, and are transported 2 km away to the security checkin, then the operations leave last.  ” – Celebrity Weddings Planner Spain

Celebrity Weddings in Spain

Spain is one of the most popular destinations for Celebrity weddings and honeymoons. Celebrities trust our services because we keep everything private.  From the very beginning only a few key people know about the wedding, and all the people involved are required to sign confidentiality agreements and leave their cellphones at home or in a secure storage area during the event.  Our team will have the celebrity wedding planner review the photographer’s and videographers media for release only to the celebrities.  The media cards are secured at the end of the event in our secure offices.   Celebrity weddings can be something small or spectacular depending on what the celebrity wishes.  Of course we cannot control, the media from following the celebrities from their home location to here. We do everything in our power to keep everything private.  Many people were amazed at how Brad Pitt kept his last marriage so private.  This is something we are specialized in.  Our manager has experience as personal assistants to celebrities and understands how to keep things off the grid.  Our team is also familiar working in the major film industry production sets in Spain and are familiar with confidentiality.  You can trust our team. Celebrity weddings in Spain.

Some of the celebs who have married in Spain include;  Even and Maximilion Cooper, Linday Price, Curtis Stone.

Actress Gemma Arterton married her Italian fiancé Stefano Catelli in a romantic Spanish ceremony at a secluded spot in the Spanish hillside. After the ceremony in the beautiful village of Zuheros in Andalucía, the newlyweds were driven away in an open-top vintage car, decorated with white wedding ribbons.

John Lennon and Yoko Ono took the plunge in Gibraltar in 1969. Sean Connery liked it so much he did it twice, once in 1962 and then in 1975.

I just wanted to say how fantastic everything was and I could never have imagined that I could have had such a lovely, relaxed wedding day filled with so many wonderful things. It felt very surreal being in the pool with my friends before the ceremony, without a care in the world! The whole day just kept getting better and better and was truly magical, and if asked for a highlight, I would not be able to make up my mind between the settings, the food or the flamenco....all absolutely amazing! I have so many lovely memories and I can't thank you enough for all your hard work and vision!

Hi guys,
I just arrived back in New York Yesterday after an absolutely fantastic few weeks. Adam and I want to thank you so very much for organizing and coordinating such a fantastic wedding... It really was (without sounding too dramatic!) the wedding of our dreams... Everything ran so smoothly and we can't thank you enough for all of your support, suggestions, organisation in the months before hand and co ordination on the day...

Our friends and family have not stopped talking about it and many have said that they doubt they'll ever attend a wedding quite like it again!! Many thanks!

The wedding was brilliant, even better than we'd imagined, right down to the bits we couldn't control, like the weather which was perfect! We're so glad we got you lot to organise it, I now think it's a myth that planning a wedding is stressful - it was pretty easy really, but I bet I wouldn't be saying that if we hadn't had you doing all the hard work! Thanks again for everything - we're so happy!

We just wanted to e-mail you to say thank you.  I don't know where to start but from our first meeting back in October you have been excellent.  You really helped to make our special day extra special - it was like a fairy tale to us.  We are finding it hard to come back down to earth now after it all!

You couldn't have been any more helpful and everything ran so smoothly on the day. Everyone commented on how hard you worked on the wedding day no-one could believe it - thank you.  The church was excellent, Casa, food, flowers, cars, music - there is nothing we would change.  It was just magical.

Thanks a million!

I just wanted to thank you both again for such a fantastic, seamless, enjoyable day. Everyone had such a fantastic time - especially us. Though the lead-up to the wedding was a bit hectic, we'd happily do it all again - perhaps without moving house, job etc.

Thank you so much to you and all the team for your help in celebrating the happiest day of our lives. It's been a whirlwind since the week before the wedding until now.

The wedding day was amazing, the food was out of this world (thank to your canape recommendations). the photography you provided was amazing and video, then the band was awesome and the DJ turned out to be a blast. The staff stayed well into the night so we could enjoy ourselves to the fullest 🙂

A massive thank you to Paradise Event Productions.  From day one they were both so friendly and helpful, and they were able to make our day as special as we always hoped it would be, even on a relatively low budget.  When we decided to change our venue with 2 months to go they worked very hard to find us the most perfect replacement. All of our guests had a wonderful time, all said it was one of the most special wedding's they'd been to.  At times planning a wedding abroad might seem daunting but the team really made sure that everything ran smoothly both leading up to and throughout our special day.
